Merrick Garland Nominated for Attorney General

Biden's Nominee for Top Justice Department Post

Garland has a long and distinguished career in law

President-elect Joe Biden has nominated Merrick Garland to be the next Attorney General of the United States. Garland is currently the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Obama in 2016, but his nomination was blocked by the Republican-controlled Senate. Garland has a long and distinguished career in law. He graduated from Harvard Law School and worked as a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice. He later served as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. As Attorney General, Garland will be responsible for overseeing the Department of Justice, which is the largest law enforcement agency in the United States. He will also be responsible for representing the United States in court and providing legal advice to the President and other members of the executive branch. Garland's nomination has been met with praise from both Democrats and Republicans. He is seen as a moderate and experienced candidate who will be able to restore the Justice Department's reputation after the Trump administration. Garland is expected to be confirmed by the Senate in the coming weeks.
