76ers Arena Project Moves Forward

76ers Arena project moves forward

Developer seeks zoning approval to start construction by June 2023

Arena expected to open in September 2031

The developers behind 76 Place, the basketball arena the 76ers want to bring to Center City Philadelphia, hope to have the zoning approval they need to start construction by June 2023.

The arena, which will be located at 3601 S Broad St., will have a concert seating capacity of 21,000 seated and at least 21,500 standing. It is expected to open in September 2031 in time for the 2031-2032 NBA season.

The arena is a regular venue for concerts and WWE events. Other pieces of the timeline include:

  • June 2023: Zoning approval expected
  • 2023: Construction begins
  • September 2031: Arena opens

The 76ers have been playing their home games at the Wells Fargo Center since 1996. The new arena would be a state-of-the-art facility that would provide a better fan experience and help the team compete for championships.
